Golden Wedding – Gill Napier

I sewed my own
wedding dress. My sister
measured me and noticed
at the time
my swelling
breasts.

I’d not allowed
myself the virginal
white. No train.
Pricked my finger
leaving a small
stain.

Being my own bad fairy
I’ve dreamed
half the years away.
Fifty still to make
if I survive
to wake.
