cover your eyesI will blow out the candles
that shed no light on ushow can I say this
I know love must lie herebetween one evening and another
though my mind is unhingedour children weep ender bombs
dancing among firefliesacross the river
I have seen bodieslying among the over-ripe fruit
by the fluttering palm frondsin the apricot orchard
yes we have forgotten who we aredresses in rags
who sold us off so cheapour fathers
their fathers perhapswho will never know
but the children missour garden at night
pomegranates waiting to be pickedagain
now close your eyeswhile an oud plays in darkness
I have done nothing wrongI am only running
we are only runningtowards the light
towards the light
