cover your eyes | I will blow out the candles |
that shed no light on us | how can I say this |
I know love must lie here | between one evening and another |
though my mind is unhinged | our children weep ender bombs |
dancing among fireflies | across the river |
I have seen bodies | lying among the over-ripe fruit |
by the fluttering palm fronds | in the apricot orchard |
yes we have forgotten who we are | dresses in rags |
who sold us off so cheap | our fathers |
their fathers perhaps | who will never know |
but the children miss | our garden at night |
pomegranates waiting to be picked | again |
now close your eyes | while an oud plays in darkness |
I have done nothing wrong | I am only running |
we are only running | towards the light |
towards the light
